The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad celebrates 76th Independence Day in Hotel Marriott on 06.02.2024
The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad commemorated the 76th anniversary of the independence of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka with a splendid ceremony held at the Marriot hotel in Islamabad. Chief Guest Dr Nadeem Jan, Honorable Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination of Pakistan, Dignitaries, Sri Lankan High Commission staff, representatives, and friends of Sri Lanka, including the Honorary Consuls of Sri Lanka in Lahore, Peshawar, Hyderabad, and Consul General, Consulate General in Karachchi graced the occasion with their presence.
The celebration commenced with the traditional welcome to the Chief Guest and according him to the stage by Highland bagpipers of Pakistan Navy Band. Later, day’s proceedings were begun with the playing of National anthems of both nations; Sri Lanka and Pakistan by the Pakistan Navy Band, which became an attracting moment followed by the ceremonial lighting of the traditional oil lamp.
Highlighting the occasion, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner, Admiral Wijegunaratne (Retd), delivered an inspiring speech and expressed Sri Lanka’s gratitude to the Pakistani government and military for their unwavering support across different spheres. Also Sri Lanka’s significant humanitarian gesture of donation over 35,000 Eye Corneas to needy people of Pakistan through Sri Lanka Eye donation Society, exemplifying the deep-rooted humanitarian bonds between the two nations were brought to the audience.
On his speech, the Chief Guest Dr. Nadeem Jan, extended warm congratulations to the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for orchestrating a successful event.
The official event was included the ceremonial cake cutting and followed by a delicious dinner served with Sri Lankan cuisine.
