The Sri Lankan High Commission in Pakistan facilitated a significant donation of human eye corneas to Pakistan, commemorating the 77th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka. This noble initiative, organized by the Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad with the assistance of Sri Lanka- Pakistan Friendship Association. Eye corneas were formally handed over by Mr A Christy Ruban, Acting High Commissioner to Pakistan, alongside Brigadier Kaminda Silva Defnce Advisor to Mr. Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development at the National Day Reception on 4 February 2025. Transplantation for needy patients were done at the Armed Forces Institute of Ophthalmology (AFIO), Rawalpindi.
This event further solidifies the remarkable legacy of bilateral cooperation, with 26,000 corneas
donated to Pakistan over the past 77 years of diplomatic relations.
