Sri Lankan Delegation, Led by Hon. (Dr.) Jagath Wickramaratne, Speaker of Parliament, Visits the office of the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Lahore

On 9th February 2025, a high-level Sri Lankan delegation, led by Hon. (Dr.) Jagath Wickramaratne, Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, visited the office of the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Lahore. This visit was part of the delegation’s participation in the 1st Joint CPA Asia & South-East Asia Regional Conference held in Lahore.

The delegation included Hon. Mulaffer Mohamed Muneer, MP, Deputy Minister of National Integration; Hon. Ms. Tushari Jayasinghe, MP; Hon. Mr. Janath Chithral Fernando, MP; Mr. Karunanathan Ilankumaran, MP; and Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Secretary General of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. They were accompanied by Acting High Commissioner A. Christy Ruban.

During the visit, the delegation focused on strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. They highlighted the importance of deepening collaboration in key areas such as trade, tourism, and investment. Acting High Commissioner played a key role in facilitating these discussions, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and regional partnerships.

The delegation had a productive meeting with representatives from the Sri Lanka Pakistan Business Forum, where they explored ways to strengthen economic ties between the two nations. The meeting, organized by Mr. Yasin Joyia, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Lahore, was attended by prominent business leaders, including Mr. Agha Nayyar Latif, Convener for Trade; Mr. Sadiq Sabir, Convener for Travel & Tourism; Mr. Shoukat Ashiq Pastor, Convener for Minorities; and Mr. Haseeb Khan, Convener for PR & Media.

Dr. Wickramaratne expressed his appreciation for the Sri Lanka Pakistan Business Forum’s significant contributions to enhancing trade and business relations. The discussions focused on new trade opportunities, promoting tourism, and finding ways to build a more dynamic partnership between Sri Lankan and Pakistani businesses.

Acting High Commissioner A. Christy Ruban reaffirmed the Sri Lankan government’s commitment to deepening its ties with Pakistan and exploring new avenues for mutual growth and prosperity.
