Sri Lankan High Commission In Islamabad Hosts An Interfaith Iftar And Dinner

Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad hosted an interfaith iftar and dinner at the High Commission premises on 26 March 2025, bringing together Sri Lankan students studying in various universities in Pakistan, religious leaders from all faiths, diplomats and dignitaries from diverse backgrounds to celebrate the values of unity, tolerance and coexistence.

The event welcomed representatives from various religious affiliations, including Muslims, Catholics, Hindus, and other special guests, highlighting the spirit of inclusivity during the holy month of Ramadan.

The programme featured the Holy Quran recitation, Dua Prayer and Azan by the students followed by a special sermon conducted by His Eminence Dr. Mufti Akeel-Ur-Rehman Pirzada, Grand Mufti of Islamabad & Chairman, Ulama Aman (Peace) Committee Pakistan.

Addressing the gathering, Acting High Commissioner Mr. Augustin Christy Ruban extended a warm welcome, expressed his appreciation to the attendees, and highlighted the rich diversity of the Sri Lankan Muslim community and its deep influence on Sri Lankan culture. He further emphasized Sri Lanka’s commitment to fostering peace and understanding in a diverse society. Additionally, he underscored the value of education and the responsibilities of students as future leaders of the country.

Ambassador Masood Khan (Retd.), a prominent diplomat of Pakistan and the President of The Millennium Universal College (TMUC) and Millennium Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship – MiTE University, graced the occasion as a special guest. During his remarks, he highlighted the strong bond and relationship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, expressed his appreciation for organizing such a meaningful Interfaith Iftar & Dinner, and commended the contributions of the students towards their motherland in the future.

Subsequently, a traditional Iftar, breaking of the fast, night prayers, and dinner were served to all attendees. The gathering included over 200 invitees, with 150 students from various universities in Islamabad and universities in Taxila, Peshawar, and Haripur, KPK province.
