The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad Celebrates 77th Independence Day of Sri Lanka

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad, Pakistan celebrated the 77th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka on 4th February 2025 at the High Commission premises.

The day’s proceedings commenced with the National Flag hoisting by Mr A Christy Ruban, the Acting High Commissioner followed by singing the National Anthem and observing two minute silence to pay tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice on behalf of the nation. Afterwards, clergies/priests representing all religions bestowed blessings for the Nation and its people. Later, the messages by H. E the President, Hon Prime Minister and Hon Foreign Minster were read out by Mr A Christy Ruban, Acting High Commissioner, Brigadier Kaminda Silva, Minister Counsellor (Defence), and Ms Kumari Perera Attache’ respectively.

Subsequently, the Acting High Commissioner delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking speech, highlighting the responsibilities of citizens towards the nation and emphasizing the importance of the Clean Sri Lanka Project.

At the end of the event, guests were invited to a lunch hosted by the High Commission.

A large number of guests attended, including the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to Peshawar, officers from the tri-forces, and many students pursuing various courses and higher studies at universities in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Haripur, Taxila, and Peshawar. The home-based and local staff of the High Commission, along with their families, also attended the event.
